Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) Examination for Secondary Education,
Assam With a view to offer quality education in the secondary schools of
Assam, the Govt. of Assam has amended the Assam Secondary Education
(Provincialised) Service Rules, 2003 fixing minimum standard of
qualification for teacher’s eligibility in secondary schools in
accordance with NCTE Regulation.
The Government in the Secondary Education Department vide the Assam
Secondary Education (Provincialised) Service (Amendment) Rules, 2012 has
prescribed the amended qualifications for direct recruitment to the
post of graduate teachers. Accordingly the first Teachers Eligibility
Test (TET) for Secondary Education in Assam will be conducted in
the last week of February, 2013 by the Government of Assam, in
Secondary Education Department.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA for Assam Secondary TET 2012
for Graduate Teachers in Secondary Schools: The Assam Secondary Education (Provincialised) Service (Amendment) Rules, 2012 has prescribed theamended qualification for direct recruitment to the post of graduate teachers. As per the substituted Schedule –II, the qualification for
1) Graduate teacher has been prescribed as BA/B.Sc/ B.Com with 50% marks with B.T./ B.Ed. degree from any recognized university.
2) Hindi Teacher: Pravin/ Ratna in Hindi with 50% marks having degree
qualification from any recognized university or B.A with Hindi as one of
the subject with 50% marks and B.T / B. Ed. degree from any recognized
University.
3) Classical Teacher (Sanskrit):- Shastri with 50% marks having degree
qualification from any recognized University or B.A with Sanskrit as one
of the subjects with 50% marks and B.T/ B.Ed degree from any
recognized University.
4) Classical Teacher such as Arabic, Urdu, Persian etc:- MM with 50%
marks with degree qualification from any recognized University or B.A
with Arabic as one of the subjects with 50% marks and B.T./B.Ed. from
any recognized University.
5) Classical Teacher (Assamese Language, Manipuri Language):- B.A with
Honours/ Major in concerned subject with 50% marks and B.T. /B.Ed.
degree from any recognized University.
However all intending candidates may note that B.T / B. Ed. Degree as a
mandatory prerequisite eligibility qualification for Secondary teachers
stands relaxed up to 01/01/2015 in accordance with the Government Order
issued by the Government of Assam in Secondary Education Department
and accordingly candidates who do not possess B.T / B. Ed. Degree may
appear at the TET Examination for Secondary Education provided they
have the academic qualifying marks as above.
Who Can Apply for Assam Secondary TET 2012
A. The Candidate must be a Citizen of India.
B. He/she must be a Graduate having 50% marks from a recognized
University with B.T/B. Ed. from a recognized University. However, a
candidate not having B.T. / B.Ed. as professional qualification may also
apply since relaxation as mentioned above is available up to 01.01.2015
for recruitment to the post of graduate teacher.
C. Age of the candidate should not be above 38 years as on 01.01.2012.
Upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates.
Number of Vacancies available in Assam Secondary TET 2012:
The number of vacant posts of Graduate Teachers is approximately 4500
(the figure is indicative and may increase subject to vacancy).
Minimum qualifying marks for passing Assam TET 2012:
To qualify in TET Examination the candidate must score at least 60%
marks. However, 5% relaxation in marks will be given for
candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/MOBC/PWD (Person With Disability)(PH).
The degree of physical disability should be minimum 40% and it should
be certified by the competent authority.
Not with standing the minimum prescribed marks secured in TET
Examination, the number of candidates declared as TET Examination
qualified would be a maximum of double the number of vacancies of
Teachers and such candidates will be determined as per merit position.
Validity: All candidates who pass the TET will be awarded a certificate.
The validity of the certificate shall be for a maximum period of
2(two) years from the date of issue of the certificate by the Empowered
Committee, Government of Assam subject to the condition that the
candidate otherwise fulfils the eligibility criteria prescribed for
recruitment to the services in Government of Assam.
Further it must be noted that, those candidates who qualify TET
Examination as per this advertisement and were not above 38 years of age
as on 1/1/2012 but might cross the upper age limit in the interim
period of validity of maximum 2(two) years shall be allowed to appear
at any graduate teacher recruitment interview that may be conducted by
the Government of Assam within the period of 2(two) years validity.
Time Schedule for Assam Secondary TET, 2012, Assam:
1. Issue of Application Form through Post OfficeMonday, 1/10/12 to Wednesday, 10/10/12 during post office working hours
2. Last date of Submission of Application form in Post Office
Up to 30/10/12 during post office working hours
3. Issue of Admit Card through Post Office
Tentatively by end of December, 2012
4 TET Examination will be held in

Structure & Content of Test
The examination shall be for 200 marks of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), each one of them carrying equal marks. The subject areas broadly are as follows.
1. Subject - General Studies & Current Affairs -Number of Questions : 100 MCQs, Marks-100
2. Subject -Pedagogy & General English - Number of Questions : 100 MCQs, Marks - 100
Total Marks - 200
Assam Secondary TET-2012 IMPORTANT POINTS:
The cost of the application form is Rs.350/- (Rupees Three hundred and Fifty only) payable at the Post Office.
Candidates coming to Post Office for purchase of application form are
to submit the details of their names address and contact number in a
plain white paper to the Post Office along with fee to obtain an
application form.
Detailed instruction on filling up of ICR cum OMR application form is given in the Application Form Booklet.
Submission of filled-in application will be done from designated post
offices only. Application sent through post offices other than the
designated ones may not reach the destination in time and TET Empowered
committee shall not be held responsible for late receipt of application
forms sent through other post offices, except the designated post
offices.
No booking charge/ postage fee will be levied upon the candidates.
Applicant must provide PIN code in the address column in the
Application Form. Applicant may approach Postmaster of his locality to
ascertain the PIN code. PIN code will facilitate early delivery of Admit
Card.
